Omniware Case Study

How DDM rebuilt its utility billing on Dynamics Billing

In 2022 Omniware published a case study on DDM Metering Systems, looking at how a submetering company with a broad and growing client base replaced the billing platform it had outgrown.

01

The problem

DDM's core challenge has always been engineering workable solutions around unique leasing requirements, LEED and EnergyStar certifications, and ever-changing time-of-use and utility rate schedules. Central to that is the software that carries the complexity of utility billing.

Having outgrown an in-house Access database, DDM had migrated to a third-party billing solution. After a multi-year association, a growing client base needed something more robust and more customizable. By 2019 the old platform was causing significant issues and limiting the company's capacity to grow.

The solution

After reviewing options referred by colleagues and other business owners, DDM selected Omniware's Dynamics Billing, an invoicing and billing system built on the Microsoft Dynamics platform.

It was optimized to manage and update numerous rates across different jurisdictions, including frequent rate changes, and to handle the demand that comes with a large client base. Omniware migrated DDM's data from its legacy system, and Dynamics Billing was integrated with DDM's metering systems and accounting software. One of Omniware's existing clients was QuadLogic, already a preferred DDM equipment vendor.
